Virginia Department of Environmental Quality's (DEQ) Wetland General Permits Revised Virginia DEQ's Virginia Water Protection General Permit program was implemented in October, 2001 with a series of four permits. Since that time, the need for minor corrections became evident. DEQ formed a Technical Advisory Committee, of which WSSI was a member, to advise the agency on the needed changes. The following permits have been revised effective January 26, 2005: WP1: Impacts for Less than ½ Acre WP2: Utility Impacts WP3: Linear Transportation Projects WP4: Impacts from Development and Certain Mining Activities No changes in the thresholds to stream and wetlands impacts were allowed to occur under the limits of this rulemaking process. The changes can best be described as house keeping except for: The addition of aggregate mining, hard rock/mineral mining, surface coal, natural gas and coal-based methane gas mining under WP4; and Construction site monitoring of every impact can now be provided by either: (1) on-site ground-level photographs prior to construction, at the end of the first, second and third months and then semi-annually for the remainder of construction; or (2) using an aerial ortho-rectified photograph taken prior to construction and then annually thereafter until the work is completed.
