The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors (BOS) is
scheduled to review and approve final Resource Protection Area
(RPA) maps on November 17, 2003 at 4:00 p.m. Anyone who owns
property that could be designated as an RPA should look at
these maps.
We are aware of several
situations where actual field conditions may not have been
accurately portrayed by these maps. (For example, some
landowners have commented that, in their experience, the
stream on their property does not flow year-round in most
years, but the County has mapped the stream as being perennial
and, therefore, part of the RPA. The opposite situation has
also been reported.) If you feel that to be the case with your
property, you must make your views known to the BOS on
November 17, 2003. These new RPA maps should be on the County's web
site soon.
November 17 is also important because upon adoption of the
final RPA map, it is the BOS' intent to make this the
effective date of the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Ordinance
Amendments that were adopted on July 7, 2003.
