Proposed Changes to the VSMP Permit Regulations and Fees
Vol. 17 No. 4

June 16, 2009

The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) has proposed to "Amend Parts I, II, and III of the Virginia Stormwater Management Program (VSMP) Permit Regulations to address water quality and quantity and local stormwater management program criteria." A portion of these proposed changes includes technical criteria that would establish statewide water quality standards for stormwater runoff.

Detailed information on the proposed amendments can be found at http://www.townhall.state.va.us/L/ViewStage.cfm?stageid=5070, including information on specific public meeting dates and times across the state:

Prior to attending one of the meetings, we recommend reviewing the "Proposed Regulation Agency Background Document" to become familiar with the proposed changes in order to get the most out of the public meetings.

DCR also proposes to establish a statewide fee schedule for stormwater management and state agency projects. This proposed action is closely tied to the proposed changes discussed above as the permit fees are necessary to fund the local stormwater management programs. Additional information can be found at http://www.townhall.state.va.us/L/viewstage.cfm?stageid=5106.

Note that the meetings' dates and times will be the same. Again, reviewing the "Proposed Regulation Agency Background Document" for these proposed fee changes will assist you in being better prepared for the public meetings.
